BYU returning to Power-House Status

After going 11-2 the last two seasons, BYU is looking to make the next step, Perfection. With 10 returning starters on offense and with the defensive mastermind of Coach Mendenhall, the Cougars quest for perfection may become a reality. Here's what ESPN has to say about it in their pre-season preview.

All I have to say is thank you Coach Mendenhall. If it wasn't for his discipline and high expectations for hard work, BYU may still be in mediocre and below average status. This could be the year that the Cougars start to be a powerhouse once again. Now if we could only watch the games on the "Mountain" channel...

I also want to say congrats to my little brother who was accepted to BYU and will be a "preferred" walk-on to the football team this next season. Here's some news articles on him.

Top 5 Saturday Predictions...

So how 'bout them ducks! They destroyed the Huskies with 465 rushing yards, 39 first downs and 55 points! Jonathan Stewart had 251 yards on 32 carries and 2 touchdowns! If it wasn't for their defense giving up 34 points, they looked nearly unstoppable. #9 USC comes to town this Saturday to take on #5 Oregon, look for Oregon run away with a win and finally making their debut in the top 3.

Just as I predicted, South Florida was overrated, a good team, but not deserving of the number 2 spot. Ohio State and LSU barely escaped with wins, but their schedules are far from being a cake walk. This Saturday #1 Ohio State starts the more difficult part of their schedule starting at #25 Penn State. #3 LSU is at #24 Alabama. Also, #2 Boston College is at Virginia Tech #8. I am predicting now that 2 of the top 3 teams will lose this Saturday. The only credible team in the top 3 is LSU and will most likely be the only team to escape with a win.
How do you barley escape with a win over a 1-7 team, have a loss to a .500 team and still be in the top 4?!? Oklahoma is not a top 5 team at this point and will show their true colors in the couple of weeks...well, except for the fact that they're playing in the big 12. Of course I wouldn't mind seeing another Oklahoma vs. Oregon title game.

Why Oregon should be #1...

What I want to know is how the top team from one of the weakest conferences is ranked #1!?! That's right Ohio State. They haven't played any great teams and we all saw how overrated they were last year. I might have them in my top ten but not in my top five. I'm really hesitant with South Florida and Boston College. I think they will both prove overrated and will show that in the coming weeks.

Out of the 1 loss teams however. I would say that Oregon is probably the most valid of any of the teams. Incredible offense and a solid defense, if they take care of the ball they will be tough to beat. They are probably the best team from arguably the best conference, and I would take them over any of the top five teams in the rankings now, yes, including LSU. We all saw what a good Kentucky offense did to the Tigers mighty defense. Oregon is #1 in my poll and will prove it against the Trojans a week from Saturday.
